Win Sweeney
Artist's Biography

I trained in Manchester and decided to go into teaching. I then spent 25 years teaching Art and Design ,both in Cheshire and then eventually returning back to my roots in Lancashire to head my own department in Preston. I continued working in Lancashire in Blackpool, and finally Lytham where I grew up.
After serious illness, two years ago, I decided that it was time for me to explore my own painting skills. During my recovery, I began painting in earnest. The experience began as a relaxing therapy but as I regained confidence ,my work progressed to my surprise my painting began to prove quite popular. It was a real boost to me when paintings began to sell and galleries were asking to hang my work. So much so that now I am recovered I have decided that a career change is in order.
I first began painting on a small scale ,in watercolour but after spending the summer of 2005 in Tuscany, working with the artist Graham Giles, I became converted to oils. I am now concentrating my efforts on exploring the landscapes of my own locality which is the beautiful, Ribble estuary at Lytham with its haunting light which so fascinated Lowry. I also enjoy working from the wide variety of landscapes and remarkable seasonal changes, seen in the Lake District ,where I was born.
