Interview with the artist

Do you display your own art at home?
Yes, the walls at home are my storage space so we have our own everlasting but everchanging exhibition! We also have the family aura & soul essence paintings in the living room. It makes a change to photographs.

What item could you not do without?
Not exactly and item but, I couldn't do without my ability to see, feel and interpret energy. My intuition and understanding of energy are vital to my work and ultimatley my happiness. I am fascinated by these subjects and the relationship between them and our physical, mental and spiritual bodies.

What is in your artistic toolbox?
Nothing unusual really.

Large tubs of acrylic paint.
Hog hair brushes of varying sizes.
Texturising mediums.
Pallet knives and a couple of muslin cloths that were my sons when he was a baby!

What do you find most difficult?
Myself!

If you could pick just three colours to work with what would they be?
Titanium White, Magenta and I would create and iridescent paint that was magical, exciting and reflected a dream state awareness. Think of fairy dust, rainbows and flowers, that would be the inspiration.

Where do you work, do you have a studio?
I work at home in the spare bedroom. Not very interesting really but a great little space of my own. It's my sanctuary when I can explore my ideas, feelings and ambitions.

When and where did you first exhibit your work?
Holmfirth Art Week, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire 1993. I exhibited two of my textiles pieces in large brightly coloured frames.

If money were no object which artwork would you buy?
I would buy a piece that I saw 10 years ago at the first exhibition that I took part in during Holmfirth during Holmfirth Art Week. I can't even remember the name of the artist however the piece was a steam train and tracks constructed from welded steel and mounted on a beautiful piece of wood. I've never forgotten it and regret not buying it. If anyone knows the artist, please let me know I would love to contact him. Moral of the story, if you see something that you love and it lifts your heart buy it.

Are you messy or neat when you work?
Hmmmmm. I sit on the fllor, canvas against the wall, paint and brushes all around me. You decide :-)

What do you like best about being an artist?
I can plan my own time, explore my ideas and use my art as a therapy or spiritual development for myself and others.
