About My Art

Bold, colourful and expressive with great attention to detail is how I would describe my work. I have used acrylics for many years and like to build up several thin layers of colour for a translucent quality. However during the past year I have taken up oil painting again.
The subject matter I choose is usually inspired by a story I've heard or a building I like, a trip to the coast, my childhood, my childrens' childhood and invariably the odd cat or two. I take my pocket camera with me everywhere to photograph people at bus stops, in pubs or anything else that catches my eye. But invariably
I like to draw on my imagination and find much of my inspiration for paintings in the humour, sadness, love and quirkiness observed in everyday life.
I find painting to be an uphill struggle, as slippery as an eel and sometimes a painting can slip away from me and the result is not like it was in my head. It's frustrating and annoying!... but when a painting is working it is ultimately very rewarding.
