Susan Jefferson
Please look in the exhibitions section for any forthcoming exhibitions. My work can also be viewed on my personal website www.artbysusanjefferson.co.uk I have enjoyed producing art from a young age and art was a very important part of my education. I studied floor covering and interior textile design to degree level at Kidderminster College, accredited by Wolverhampton University. Since completing my course in 1999 I have developed my design skills and have become more interested in using surface pattern in paintings rather than from a design perspective. My current work is of an abstract origin which combines a contemporary and decorative style, influenced by modern day living. I also take inspiration from nature, in particular sun sets and water which I explore through layering, colour and pattern. My work reflects the enjoyment that I gain from experimenting with different media and surface pattern. As well as painting in an abstract style I also enjoy painting and drawing a variety of subjects, and more recently I have been following a stained glass course which I find both exciting and rewarding. I find that this allows me to explore colour and texture in a different way. It also allows me to use design processes from initial ideas through to the finished product. I am always looking at different media to create my artworks. I mostly work in gouache but have also used watercolour, pastel, silk paints, batik and acrylic. It mainly depends on what effects that I want to create and also what subject I was going to be painting or drawing. I enjoy showing my work in exhibitions as people can view the pictures as they should be. I also have some work for sale on a gallery website on the internet and I also have my own website which has examples of my work on show. As well as abstracts I have worked in more traditional ways by painting landscapes which I hope to do more of in the future, flower studies which I have found to be quite popular and buildings, particularly houses. I will however attempt to work in other ways as necessary as I can turn my hand to most things. My art practice is really about experimenting with different media and subjects that I feel comfortable with at the time. I am a spare time artist; I aim to create artwork whenever I can especially before an exhibition. In the future I would like to spend more time on creating art. My work is shown in 5 rooms, the blue room, stripes and shapes, florals, hand painted art cards and other work. I attend the regular Original Art Exhibitions. The exhibition is held in Addingham Memorial Hall, Addingham Village, Nr Ilkley, Yorkshire. The exhibition starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm it is held usually on the last Sunday of the month. Come along to see my work and also work from other artists. I will have a selection of paintings, art cards and stained glass pieces. More information can be found at, www.originalartexhibitions.co.uk. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoyed producing it. Thank you for visiting. |
