About My Art

Influences include the decorative paintings of Gustav Klimt, Georgia O’Keefe’s incredibly vibrant depictions of Flora, Gauguin and the intricate drawings of Escher.
I love to experiment with a variety of materials and my research into the impact of light on the Landscape has led me to my current Semi Abstract work, with its highly textured surfaces and vibrant colours.
Nature is a source of inspiration for my painting and when out on location finding the smallest hidden tangle of vegetation, a fallen leaf or flower head will keep me happy and challenged for hours!
My days are long!
I usually wonder downstairs between 6 and 6.30am.
Two or three cups of tea later and after the tidying up done, sandwiches made, hungry cats and guinea pigs fed and waves goodbye to the family, I am ready to start my day in my studio - usually at about 8am.
I ‘potter’ for a while, more tea, cleaning palettes from the day before and I then gradually focus on the goals ahead. I like buying materials I know nothing about and my favourite day is a time when I can experiment with new techniques and discover the qualities of a new medium.
I always have about 3 or 4 paintings on the go at the same time. When I need to stand back from one I can see another with fresh eyes.
Music is always in the background - anything from Pink Floyd, or the Stones, to Dido and Enya. My taste is broad and the music I choose needs to be right and becomes a part of the creative process.
I get very focused, time flies and my day usually ends when someone is hungry!
Leaving the studio is difficult and my favourite saying is ‘’I’ll just be a minute!’’ which infuriates my family because my minutes can be hours!
