Siobhan Gannon
I enjoy painting almost photo realistic portraits, generally of children. I think that I have started to paint them realistically because of their clear vision of the future. In addition,(myself included) I believe that most parents and grandparents want their children to look like photographs. I am still working to improve the technique of photo realism but am so far delighted with the work. When using nature as my inspiration, I am more interested in trying to depict an atmosphere as opposed to creating a direct representation of an scene. My recent series of 'Surface' paintings are influenced by aboriginal art, but more the meaning than the techniques, as they develop, the environmental context is becoming clearer. I work on different sizes of canvas using acrylic paint, ink and wax as I like the depth and unexpected surfaces that are achievable at the pace that I prefer to work. I also produce smaller pieces using machine embroidery, again using nature as my subject matter. If you like the way that I work, I would welcome commissions at reasonable prices to be negotiated. |
