Artist's Description

Strata is one of my favourite recent works. I am actually quite tempted to keep this one myself! I have always been fascinated by the shapes and colours of rocks. I have masses of photos of rocks, taken all over the place. I wanted to do a fairly abstract piece that showed the qualities and colours to advantage. I have restricted the colours to a pink, grey, purple theme. But, the colours are very layered and you see more each time you look. This work is textured with tissue paper underneath and I have also used it for areas of relief. I have "built" some rocks out of Model Magic medium because it is very lightweight. I have used stone textured paint and some sand to increase the feeling of surface texture.
The sides are painted a very dark brown. The work is covered in matt varnish.
