About My Art

I have no particular style. I love to be experimental and try lots of different things. My work is dependant on my mood and what has inspired me recently. In the last few years I have concentrated mainly on floral abstracts, but I also enjoy seascapes, simple landscapes, and work based on patterns. My work is usually done in acrylic and chromacolour paint. I enjoy mixed media, and occasionaly add string, hessian, sand and gold thread for interest. I often add texture to all or part of the board (or canvas) before I start to paint. This is usually tissue paper or sand. My colours are usually bold and bright. I use colours to match my mood a lot of the time. I work in my conservatory, unless it is warm, when I work in the garden. I get very annoyed with the winter months when there is limited natural light. I am very much a summer person. I think this is reflected in my style of painting, whatever the theme.
I am inspired by many different artists. You can see influences of Van Gogh and the Impressionists in my work. I love Monet, Pissarro, Cezanne, Klimt and Georgia O'Keefe. I enjoy ethnic art, especially aboriginal works. I am also very fond of the architect Gaudi.
I also do a lot of photography. Some I use as reference or inspiration for my paintings. Some I play with in Photoshop, and have produced some interesting examples. I may use these for a range of greetings cards, when I have some spare time.
