Pamela Bishop
Artist's Biography

I was born and brought up in Birmingham. As a child I was taken on countryside outings consequently, although city born, I have always had an intense interest in the countryside and its wildlife. It is this wildlife that inspires my work.
In the early nineties, whilst working as a nursery nurse, I moved to Redditch a small town just south west of Birmingham, but on the edge of the countryside. So I was able to both enjoy the countryside and introduce my enthusiasm for art to the children in my care.
I gained an O level in art but that was as far as my formal art training went. Art and craft has always been a hobby and I have recently enjoyed making greeting cards. Mainly a self taught artist I have, up until now, only done work for family and friends.
In 1995, an illness, which meant I had to rest frequently, forced me to give up working with watercolour as washes dried on my palette before I had chance to use them. Consequently, I tried watercolour pencils followed shortly afterwards by coloured pencils. In 2003 I joined the UK coloured pencil society, and through their newsletter and advice I was finally 'home'. I had found my medium and also my style. Even with much improved health I intend to stay with my pencils.
More recently I joined the Redditch Art Circle and it was through the Art Circle that I was encouraged to exhibit at one of their events. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience it gave me a reason to continue with my work. I want to share my work with a much wider audience.
In October 2008 one of my pictures ,Waiting for a Worm, was voted 2nd by the public in the Redditch Art Circles autumn exhibition. I was really thrilled by this event as many people visited the stand on that day. Waiting for a Worm is now on my gallery.
