About My Art

The main aim of my work is to capture the ever-changing light and fantastic colours of the surrounding northern landscape, whether it be urban or rural.
I am interested in how things look and change over time, be it minutes or years. The seasons change everything and no two days are the same. I especially like the intense light you get just before a thunder storm, especially during the summer months and the vibrant effects you see at dawn and sunset.
I am also fascinated by the regeneration of the landscape. The ‘recycling’ of old, decaying and abandoned buildings such as mills, wharves, factories and farm buildings. The breathing of new life into something that has been left because it no longer serves its original purpose.
I like to observe, to search, stylise, abstract, change, transform and refine to produce a finished piece, which I think captures the essence of the moment. The style of my work may vary from piece to piece, but collectively they show a vision of how I see this great landscape.
