About My Art

I work mainly in acrylics and mixed media. I enjoy the spontaneity the different media offer, and the vibrancy that can be achieved with acrylic. I don't necessarily attempt to portray the actual colour of a subject, preferring instead to use colours that match my response to what I see.
My sources are varied. I find working from sketches the most spontaneous way of painting as the sense of the moment is most effectively captured through a medium where there is a direct physical and sensual response to the local environment. Photographs can be evocative too, but the physical interaction is missing, so I prefer if possible to have both. I have sketchbooks created a good many years ago which I still use for inspiration, although the paintings from these tend to be of a more personal nature and don't necessarily appear here.
Other times my inspiration comes from the hidden or largely unobserved patterns in the world around us. Those that are either microscopic and so invisible to the human eye, or transient, the effect of temporary local conditions.
