One of a series of paintings on the theme of 'trees of the pagan calendar' painted for the Red Hen Artists Brighton Festival May 2006 exhibition on the theme of 'trees'.
Hawthorn. The moon for June. This painting was inspired by the legend of the 'Holy Thorn' at Glastonbury, England. The tale tells that this variety of hawthorn arose from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea and only flowers on Chirstmas day.
