Laura Cooper
Artist's Biography

I can't remember a time when I didn't draw and I can't imagine a time when I won't.
I started by painting nothing but horses and my work at school was filled with images of Fred, my pony. I completed my GCSE in Art achieving an A*, I went on to take my A level and then foundation course at Art College. Due to a riding accident, resulting in broken bones, I had to take a year out before applying to University and unfortunately, ten years on, I am still on my 'year out'. I adored life drawing at college but became disillusioned by the pressure to produce abstract work which had never really interested or inspired me.
I completed my first commission when I was thirteen, a black labrador-cross with a scar on his nose, a much loved pet belonging to my parents friend. After that all work came by word of mouth and hasn't stopped since.
I have finally decided to take the plunge and pursue my dream of becoming a full time animal artist, I am currently working on my own website to showcase and advertise my art. I like to work mainly to order as the enjoyment I get from painting each pet is only equalled by the wonderful comments I receive from the owner and the knowledge that I have immortalised a much loved companion forever in art.
