Jan Pursey-Grange
Artist's Biography

I have been drawing and painting since childhood and attended my first Art College, part time, at the age of 14. I then studied at St Martins, Epsom, and Medway Schools of Art.
I initially painted in oils and pastels but now paint mainly in watercolour and silk, with the occasional acrylic. I find colours very exciting and love the vibrant colours and effects which can be achieved with silk painting. My favourite subject for painting is flowers, but I also enjoy painting horses, steam trains (I love the steam!) and landscapes.
I hold weekly classes for Bucks Adult Continuing Education in mixed media - experimental techniques and flower painting in watercolour. I run the occasional weekend course for the Field Studies Council and hold watercolour and silk painting workshops in my studio near Buckingham.
I am a member of the Buckinghamshire Art Society, the Milton Keynes Society of Artists, the Visual Images Group and the Winslow & District Art Society.
I exhibit regularly throughout the year and my commissions include private houses, gardens, horses, flowers and steam trains.
I continue to find painting exciting, frustrating, moving, rewarding and utterly impossible to ignore. I am always learning, trying out new techniques and looking for new ways to interpret a subject. I can't imagine doing anything else!
