About My Art

I work mainly in watercolour and silk and enjoy painting colourful subjects, particularly flowers. It is always exciting starting a new painting. The stage I enjoy most is putting on the initial colour, either in a controlled way or in a very free way, letting the colours blend together on the paper or silk.
With silk flower paintings I prefer to drop the colours on to the silk without the constraint of gutta initially. This allows the flower colours to blend into the background colours, which makes for a more exciting painting. I then use gutta to form loose flower shapes and add more colour in stages.
My paintings are mounted and framed in good quality solid wood frames, which are carefully chosen to suit the particular painting.
I am currently working on a series of silk paintings depicting colourful fishes and sealife, which is great fun.
I paint outdoors when weather permits, but mostly in the studio from a mixture of sketches and photographs, where I can spread myself out!
