My Gallery Rooms
Collectable (<£100)+

I produce a range of high quality small paintings (8x8 inch=20x20cm) box canvases. These are no different in technique or quality to my large paintings.
These paintings are always popular in galleries and people sometimes by them in small sets!
They are good way to start collecting my paintings.

These are all paintings that I have painted this year and have usually been uploaded in the last month or so. The minigallery stock will change quite frequently as I exhibit regularly in a number of real-world galleries.

People, buildings and other details don't feature in my landscapes. I prefer to leave the shapes of hills, sea, rain and light to speak for themselves. A dull dark rainy seascape is as beautiful to me as a glorious sunset or chocolate-box sunny scene.
I often paint these landscapes as stormy, rainy and indistinct. Blue skies or hints of sun do battle with stormy rain clouds, a battle of hope against gloom.
I have lived in Derbyshire on and off for most of my life, the beautiful Peak District Landscape has been a great inspiration to me. Five years ago I moved to Belper which is a small town on the edge of the Peak District, a perfect gateway to the local landscape.

These seascapes are painted with acrylic paint on canvas. I build up the layers of the picture over a period of weeks and sometimes months. Having started with watercolour but then switching to acrylic I use a mixture of techniques including washes, blending and scraping, sometimes with a pallette knife, brush or fingers. Most of the paintings are painted on deep edge box canvas ready to hang (d-rings and chord attached).
Inspiration comes from Cardigan Bay, especially the coast of Merioneth, around the Tywyn area. This beautiful and often barren coast is a forgotten treasure and I visit regularly.

My early sculptures consisted of simple wire and components inserted into the canvas surface and painted. More recently I have started using large found objects, such as circuit boards and embedding them into boxes. eg: "Organovidigram". I usually add what I describe as Pseudo-biological elements these are hand crafted from tissue look like parts of a body.
The combination of the these elements in sculpture is difficult to explain but I am certainly exploring ideas of what it means to be conscious, where does the body finish and the mind start? I am particularly interested in the idea of mind being a function purely of the operation the human body and the realisation that when the body stops the self disappears. As my sculptures have developed I have continued to explore wider issues of my relationship with technology, more recently touching on the political elements of this dimension and the issues around privacy and use of technology.

From time to time I dabble with non-landscapes and most of these are spontaneous almost subconscious paintings.
