Gareth Buxton - Sculpture - Sculpture - My early sculptures consisted of simple wire and components inserted into the canvas surface and painted. More recently I have started using large found objects, such as circuit boards and embedding them into boxes. eg: "Organovidigram". I usually add what I describe as Pseudo-biological elements these are hand crafted from tissue look like parts of a body. The combination of the these elements in sculpture is difficult to explain but I am certainly exploring ideas of what it means to be conscious, where does the body finish and the mind start? I am particularly interested in the idea of mind being a function purely of the operation the human body and the realisation that when the body stops the self disappears. As my sculptures have developed I have continued to explore wider issues of my relationship with technology, more recently touching on the political elements of this dimension and the issues around privacy and use of technology.
