David Taylor
Artist's Biography

I have painted in watercolours on and off for over 40 years. However, in the last 10 years I have taken my painting more seriously. I am largely self-taught and I'm still learning. I am a member of an art group where comment and encouragement come in equal measure, along with an outstanding tutor.
Having received a grounding in the basics of colour, tone, perspective and a few other things at school, the rest has come from studying the works of people like David Bellamy and Kurt Jackson.
The biggest turning point for me came when my job relocated me to the North of England. With easy access to the Lake District, Yorkshire and the Northumberland coast and with time on my hands, painting became a way of life.
The next big step forward came once I was able to set aside a room just for painting. To call it a studio is probably a bit over the top. Its importance lies in the fact that I can leave paintings and return to them later. It is amazing what you see in a painting when you have been away from it for a while.
