About My Art

I have been very privileged to live in two contrasting countries, England and South Africa. The vibrancy of the latter comes through in my work. When you first arrive, you want to spot all the favourites – Lion, Elephant and Rhino, but on your next visit to the bush you will notice so much more about the whole eco-system. Our guides were often obsessed with trees and insects rather than the more common larger creatures roaming around. The continent of Africa has vast skies and limitless plains so the spatial qualities in relation to the subject vary greatly. I have used many methods to capture this including watercolour, charcoal, airbrush and oils to create a final piece. I am keen on the realistic combined with some abstraction of colour, especially in my backgrounds. I enjoy intensity of tones and form, often incorporating pattern and shape into natural flora. I used to work quite small, but I am graduating to larger canvases and enjoying the dimension it affords me. Some pieces of artwork challenge me greatly, others tend to flow, but I always achieve my perceived vision eventually.
The great thing about art production is you never stop learning or get bored, it’s so inspiring and a true antidote to everyday life.
