About My Art

My work forms a spectrum of pieces from detailed observations of wild and cultivated flowers to conceptual works and installations, which when lit by ultraviolet light reveal hidden messages.
Using saturated colours, I paint mainly in oils on canvas or board, varying in size from small 10 x 10cm pieces to around 1m square. My paintings are developed from a combination of drawings and macro photographs – I take my camera and sketchbook with me, whenever walking on the hills or along the coast path, to gather information. Some pieces incorporate text and phrases, which relate to the image or subject matter.
You will find more information about my pieces using ultraviolet light on my website www.carolekingart.co.uk
As well as flowers I am also intrigued by our many Welsh megaliths, which are typically found in very special impressive and atmospheric locations.
Other individual, finished pieces use printmaking media, including monotypes, Carborundum and silkscreen prints. I find the element of the unexpected in printmaking always stimulating and challenging. My prints are often developed for use as elements in my installations or become covers for special hand stitched, artist-made books.
