About My Art
Inspiration for my vibrant canvases is largely taken from the rich and varied colours of the world around me. Abstract blocks of colour, whose forms contrast and complement one another, together with their strong graphic elements, are a common theme in many of my works. These abstracts look stunning in both the home and workplace.
I am fascinated at the fragmentation of images into blocks of colour and this is evident in some of my more representational paintings which still retain a graphic and almost abstract form. These paintings are slow and laborious but I think the satisfaction gained is worth the effect.
My recent paintings have taken on a more representational and sensitive form, where I aim to capture that sweet moment in time, lost in the blink of an eye. My travels have encouraged me to venture from the abstract and these more recent paintings are figurative as well as representational and almost illustrative in form.
I have only recently returned to working on paper as well as canvas and find this gives me great flexibility. I love the way light can be captured on paper in a way that seems not to be so apparent on canvas. I am constantly widening my palette, so to speak, and I am happy to experiment with many styles and media.
