About My Art

I mainly work in Pastel, using quality pastels, Unison mostly, on Pastel board, and Pastel pencils for fine detail. I do not restrict myself to any particular subjects. although I am a lover of the countryside and nature, so much of my work is wildlife, landscapes, seascapes etc.
I work from photographs, my own if possible, for the basic layout, then add my interpretation of colours, atmosphere, etc to the subject.
I have been asked on numerous occasions if Pastels fade, Pastels do not fade, they will, after many years, stay as vibrant and colourful as the day they were applied.
Pastel will smudge if not handled carefully, therefore Original Work must be behind glass for protection.
I also enjoy digital art, using my computer with numerous painter programs, a graphics tablet and pen. Digital art is now becoming very popular, and some fantstic effects can be achieved. If I find I like the results of a particular piece of work wich I have digitally created, then I sometimes reproduce this in the traditional method, using
Pastel, Oil or acrylic depending on which is best suited to the subject.
All my newest work is now signed in my maiden name A Bushby and not Mckinnon.
