Semi-Abstract Agricultural landscapes+

Although born in a city, I find myself drawn to the agricultural landscape for inspiration. Maybe it in my genes, as both my parents were from farming families before they moved to the UK in the 50s, or because I worked with horses and on local farms when leaving school. For whatever reasons it scares me that our farms are under threat by current policy and market trends, and that if we are not careful our “green and pleasant land” will soon turn into a vast featureless crop factory. Just miles and miles of one crop with no hedgerow. I find myself trying to convey this through my abstract landscapes, and although some of these may appear featureless, the use of texture and colour still manages to convey a that even these are fragile and delicate.

Trees have great power, strength and majesty. A lot of their strength comes from their deep roots, and ability to bend and give in strong winds. If only we humans were more the same.
