My self-portrait
Having recently retired from a career in education and I am now finding time to concentrate more on painting and photography. I have enjoyed the outdoors in many parts of the world and obtain great satisfaction reliving the experiences through art. I have had no formal training though my appreciation of other artists has had an influence on my work.

My interest in ornithology led me into sketching birds. This developed to creating pen and ink drawings. I was at first influenced by the work of Robert Gilmour and later of other artists with work published in ‘British Birds’. Through this publication I had bird drawings exhibited in the Mall Galleries, London and as a cover illustration of the magazine.

From pen and ink I moved to watercolour and to landscape painting. I now carry a watercolour set wherever I go. My move into acrylics was very hesitant but after a few successes I now enjoy the medium. I have exhibited the paintings in the Great Sheffield Art Show and at Derbyshire village exhibitions such as Great Longstone and Baslow.
